Elephant Hide

Original Acrylic by Judy Lavoie

IMAGE SIZE: 12" x 16

STATUS: Original has been SOLD

"This was an experiment in texture. I started with a gessoed masonite board, to which I adhered layers tissue paper with acrylic medium, letting the tissue wrinkle. When dry, I painted the surface with rich shades to simulate the appearance of leather. I chose the elephant for my subject so I could use the texture of the surface to enhance the 'leather' feeling of the elephant's hide, letting the main subject fade into the background. I considered my experiment a success, especially when I showed it to a friend just after I finished and she bought it!"
